William Jesse
William Jesse "Bill" Ward, Sr. 84 of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at his residence.
The family will greet friends on Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, at Bishop Chapel of Memories with Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick, assisted by Mr. Steve Weeks. Burial will follow at Tannehill Cemetery with full military honors by United States Army Honor Guard.
William Jesse was born March 13, 1935 in Dewey, Oklahoma to Fred and Francis Belle (Henshaw) Ward. Bill graduated from Dewey High School and entered the United States Army on July 8, 1954.
Later, Bill married Annette Eades on July 14, 1956 in Tuttle, Oklahoma.
During his military service, he served in Korea and several tours in Viet Nam. He also was stationed in Germany and at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He received his honorable discharge after 20 years of service on August 31, 1974 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, serving as Master Sergeant.
Bill later began his career for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, where he worked as the business manager for 15 years before his retirement.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with is family and friends.
Bill also raised chickens for a number of years, while operating the cockfights in Kelleyville and Muldrow.
Bill is survived by his children, Cheryl Bowen and Robert Allcock of Depew, Ok, Paula Dinwiddie and Walter of Seminole, Ok and William, Jr "Wilbur" Ward and wife, Ruth of McAlester, Ok. Grandchildren; William Bowen and wife, Ann, Christina Carnes and husband, Jonas, Walter Dinwiddie, II and wife, Melanie, Dakota Miller and husband, Jesse, Emma Spier and husband, Eric and Cody Ward, Great grandchildren; Miranda Bowen, Gracelynn Bowen, Blakley Carnes, Jennifer Dinwiddie, Colton Carnes, Matthew Dinwiddie, Trae Dinwiddie, Brody Miller, Carter Spier and Lucas Spier.
Bill is also survived by great grandchildren, Olivia West and Alexandria Dinwiddie, brothers-in-law, Gillis Eades and wife, Joyce of Tuttle, Jerry Eades and wife, Carolyn "Sissy" of Garland, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Francis Ward, his wife, Annette Ward, 3 brothers and a sister.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Dale Smith, Russell Humphreys, Charles Webster, Danny Alexander, Harry Reading, Wendle Henry, Earl Weeks, Jerry Eades and Gillis Eades.
