William E. King
William E. "Bill" King, 96 of McAlester died Monday December 23, 2019 in McAlester at a local nursing center.
The family will greet friends and relatives 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bishop Funeral Service.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday December 27, 2019 at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Rev. Joe Perry and Rev. Jerry Jiles. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by the Skullyville Choctaw Veterans Association Post 4501, Stigler VFW Post 4446 and Spiro VFW Post 4884.
Pallbearers will be: Shane King, Brent Fry, Joshua Fry, Bailey Fry, Tyler Parsons and Shelton Fry.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Jeremy Nave, Presley Nave, J.R. Steidley, Johnny Vermillion, Gary Vermillion, Russell Hampton, Mason Smith, Jace Gaynor and 7 Nave.
Bill was born to Mack and Alice (Underwood) King April 11, 1923 in Ada, Oklahoma.
He attended Sequoyah school and then joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II at the rank of Seaman First Class receiving the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon. After serving 3 years in the service he attended and graduated from the Cholocco Indian School in Tahlequah.
He married Dorothy E. Vermillion August 17, 1957 in Ada.
He worked for Rogers Dry Cleaning and Troy's Cleaners for over 30 years. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church in Hartshorne.
Bill was proud of his Choctaw and Chickasaw heritage.
He was a member of the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.
Bill was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation and Chickasaw heritage and was an avid OU Sooners fan.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Alice King; sisters: Opal Perry, Bonnie Moore and Ida Fry; grandson Newman Jennings Fry and grandson-in-law, Samuel Smith.
Survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy of the home; daughter, Chewelah Fry and husband, Newman of McAlester; son, Richard King and wife, Becky of Newalla; foster-son, Jerry Nave of Alderson and Russell Hampton and wife Bess of McAlester; sister-in-law, Nelda Steidley and husband, Jim of McAlester; five grandchildren: Christa Fry-Smith, Josh Fry and wife, Latilda, Brent Fry and wife, Lindsay, Amber Gaynor, and Shane King; 10 great grandchildren; nephews: Joe Perry and wife, Pam, Wayne Perry and wife, Diane, David Moore and wife, Judy, Walter Moore and wife, Wanda and numerous other family members and friends.
