Susan Lynn Benson Obituary

Susan "Susie" Lynn (Souther) Benson, 63, of McAlester, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021, in Tulsa. Susie was born on August 6, 1957, the daughter of Mamie Jo Church. She attended Pittsburg High School and later moved to the Dallas area where she had her two sons. She later returned to the McAlester area. As an early adult, Susie worked as an Optical Lab Assistant for many years. She then was a Manager for Braum's Industries and later in life, managed a local convenience store before retiring. On December 30, 2003, Susie married Glenn Alton Benson in Arkansas. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2009.

As a child, Susie loved doing cartwheels, she would even cartwheel down the stairs. She had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. Those who knew her knew she was a no nonsense kind of person and was not equipped with a social filter. She loved listening to music and once she discovered the Alexa app there was no stopping her. She enjoyed listening to 70's and 80's music. Her favorites were anything by Fleetwood Mac, Christopher Cross or Kenny G. Susie's proudest accomplishment were her two sons. She cherished time spent with their families and especially enjoyed cutting up with her grandchildren.

Survivors include: her sons, Stanton Souther and wife Misty of McAlester, and Rusty Greathouse and wife Elizabeth of Bixby; her grandchildren, Kyndle Souther, Hayden Souther of McAlester, Alexis Greathouse, Konner Greathouse of Tulsa and a great grandson, Daxton Nichols, of McAlester; her brother, Brent Sweetin of Pittsburg; her sister, Vickie Wills and husband Okie of Plano, TX. She is preceded in death by her mother, Mamie Jo Souther, her husband, Glen Benson and a brother, Timothy Sweetin.

A celebration of Susie's life with family and friends will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements were made with Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory of Eufaula. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.hbmfuneralhome.com.
