McAlester, Ok - Sharon Kaye Thompson Lackey, 78, of McAlester, passed to heaven on Tuesday, December 2, 2025 in McAlester, A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Spring of 2026 at the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester.

Sharon Lackey was born on February 6, 1947 in Atoka to Eugene and Florence (VanHoozer) Thompson. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1965, then attended Paul's Beauty School in Oklahoma City in 1966. She worked as a beautician/cosmetician, on and off, for several years in the McAlester area. In her spare-time, she enjoyed cooking, spending time in the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and was also a very talented artist. She married Tom Lackey on October 23, 1990, who survives her. She is also survived by grandchildren, Michael Verner and wife Hailey and their children, Ryatt and Ridge Verner, Nicholas Verner and wife Adelyn, Lane Verner and wife Mackenzie and their children Kash Thompson and Kennedy Verner. She loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren; they were all the joy of her life. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Johnny Ball; a sister-in-law, Gerry Shephard; a brother-in-law, Kevin Lackey; niece and nephews, Sumer Ball, Jeff Ball, and Jason Ball, as well as other nieces and nephews. Also, special friends from the first grade, Deana Adams and Connie Davis. Sharon was preceded in death by her daughter, Leslie Sauer-Verner; a son, Michael Sauer; her parents Eugene and Florence Thompson; her grandparents, William VanHoozer and Cora VanHoozer, who lived with Sharon and her family, and Joe Thompson and Jewell Thompson.
