Ray Albert Powell
Ray Albert Powell, 82, of Wilburton, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 1, at Jones-Harkins Chapel in Wilburton.
Ray was born on November 26, 1936, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Chester and Regina (Bonk) Powell. He married Connie Bloxham on July 13, 1957, in Bowers. Ray grew up in South Dakota.
He joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Korea. While stationed in California, he met and married Connie Bloxham.
In August of 1964, they moved to Latimer County to be close to Connie's family. Ray was a machinist by trade. He owned and operated L.T. Garage on six mile lane and a construction company. He also worked as a welder and in the oilfield for CRC Wireline.
He was a longtime member of the Kiamichi Electric Board, serving in all capacities. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Wilburton Masonic Blue Lodge No. 141 and of the Bedouin Shrine in McAlester. Raymond was an avid golfer for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Connie (Bloxham) Powell, of the home; son, Craig Powell and wife, Charlotte, of Wilburton; daughter, Paula Vinzetta and husband, Pete, of Canadian; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Morris, of Moyers, Brooke Miller and husband, Greg, of Wilburton, Logan Powell and wife, Laura, of Ada, Brian Menasco, of McAlester, Roy Chance Menasco, of Roland, Travis Powell and wife, Amy, of Wilburton, and Ross Mills and wife, Autumn, of Houston, Texas; 17 and ½ great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Tom Powell and wife, Elaine, of Washington, Richard Powell, of Washington, Vivian Hansen, of North Dakota, Barbara Dance and husband, Rick, of Washington, and Edith Obiedzenski, of Washington; sister-in-law, Mitzi Bernardi and husband, Frank, of Wilburton; brother-in-law, William Morris Bloxham, of Wilburton; specials nieces, Tina Holson and husband, Chris, of Owasso, and Melissa Sturgeon and Roger Woods, of Hartshorne; special friends, Bob and Patti Dixon, of Tuttle, and numerous other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Ray left all of his family and friends with wonderful memories and a lot of love.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Regina Powell; son, Frank Powell; brothers and sisters, Bob Powell, Rowland Powell, Evelyn Clark, Mary Greenwell, Carol Ortez, and Virginia Sidell; and mother-in-law, Pauline Vaughn.
Arrangements entrusted to Jones-Harkins Funeral Home of Wilburton.
