Phyllis Rae Mathiews, 79, of the Lynwood Community, passed on Tuesday, December 3, 2019, in Oklahoma City.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10, at Grand Event Center in McAlester with the Rev. Dr. Trevor Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne.
Phyllis was born on November 21, 1940, in Haileyville, to Ray B. and Alva Phyllis (Messina) Garvin. She married Richard Dale Grant Mathiews on December 18, 1965, in Hartshorne.
Phyllis was the Eldercare Program Coordinator for the Oklahoma State Health Department in McAlester until her retirement. She was truly loved and revered by all.
Phyllis is survived by her husband, Richard Mathiews, of the home; son, Richard Grant Mathiews, of Oklahoma City,and special friends, Charlene Spears, of Hartshorne, and Florence Brown, of Mustang.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Alva Garvin, and her son, Garvin Mathiews.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bartley Mathiews, Jerry Mathiews, Alex Jackson, Billy Dale Spears, Ryan Spears and Eddie Ray Mayo.
