Haileyville, Ok - Jimmy Jay Stewart I, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and devoted man of faith, passed

peacefully on May 10, 2025, at St. Francis Hospital following complications from

Parkinson's disease-just one day before his 78th birthday.

Born on Mother's Day, May 11, 1947, in Pittsburg, California, Jimmy was the son of Bill and Mamie Abona Stewart. At the age of six, he went to live with his paternal grandparents, Paul Victor and Maymie Lay Stewart, whose influence helped shape his life.

Jim graduated from Knox Central High School in 1965 and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969, stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He continued his military service in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of E6 before retiring in 1992 - On August 10,1974, Jimmy married the love of his life, Judy Nunley. Together, they built a life of love, faith, and dedication that lasted more than 50 years.

In 1975, Jimmy gave his life to Jesus Christ and was baptized at Himyar Baptist Church in

Himyar, Kentucky. His faith remained central to his life until his passing.

Professionally, Jim served his community in many ways. He retired in 2014 as a federal employee and also served as Mayor of Haileyville, Oklahoma. From 2002 to 2009, he was a member of the Haileyville School Board, where he held roles as President, Vice

President, and board member.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandparents, Paul Victor and Maymie Lay Stewart; and his maternal grandparents, Arazio and Louisa DeStefano Abona.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judy Stewart his three children: Jimmy Jay Stewart II (Sara) of Edmond, OK; Julie Ruth Stewart-Cook (Rockey) of Haileyville, OK; and Jo Ann Stewart of Oklahoma City, OK. He also leaves behind two cherished grandsons: Antonio Clyde Stewart of Haileyville, and Jimmy Jay Stewart III of Edmond.

Also mourning his loss are two young women who became like family to him. Amanda "Mandy" Heard of Oklahoma, and Taylor "Cricket" Phares of Blanchard, OK-whom he lovingly called the granddaughter he never had.

A private funeral will be held at the family's request. Pallbearers will be family members.

Honorary pallbearers include Dr. Bradley Cross and the staff of McAlester Direct Primary Care, as well dedicated nurses and aides from Angels Home Health, whose care and compassion were deeply appreciated.

Jimmy Jay Stewart I leaves behind a legacy of service, faith, and unwavering love for his family and country. He will be deeply missed.
