I didn't know Dustin very well. We were in the same class at ECU on 2 occasions. Once, he was just chatting with other students and he plopped himself right on my desk. I was getting ready to sit down but I tapped him on the shoulder & said, you are siting on my desk, did you bring lysol wipes to clean it? He said with a smile on his face, "it's okay, I bathed and put clean clothes on today". We just both laughed. I had noticed that he was always smiling. I think he was pretty smart too because his team would win and get additional points in class. My condolences and prayers to the family.

I didn't know Dustin and just learned of his death today but I know something of the courage it takes to live an authentic life when so many trans people have been targeted through hatred and ignorance and I applaud the bravery he represents. Condolences to the family and all of those fortunate to have known and loved him.
