Charlotte Annn (Lake) Oxford Burns Obituary

McAlester, OK - Charlotte Ann (Lake) Oxford Burns, 80, of McAlester, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at her home.

Charlotte Oxford, the woman who danced her way into the New Year and kept the rhythm going every day after, has passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at her home. She was born on December 31, 1944 to Eddie Lake and Nellie (Smith) Lake. Charlotte's entrance into the world set the tempo for a life filled with laughter, love, and the kind of spunk that could light up any room.

She married Kenneth Charles Burns, and he preceded in her in 2013. Charlotte was a strong and independent woman. She worked as a guard at the Oklahoma State Penitentiary for many years and would also have several part-time jobs to help care for her family. Charlotte was very proud of earning her G.E.D.

Charlotte is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her father, Eddie Lake; mother, Nellie Strain; infant son, Bobby Oxford; daughter, Cheri Oxford; and brother, Leon Strain.

She is survived by daughters: JoAnn Oxford, and Cindy Keith and husband, Lee; son, Bobby Joe Oxford, Jr. and wife, Carla; sisters: Barbara Corbitt, Delvina Padgett and husband, Jimmy, Debbie Smith, Kay Bruce and husband, Ted; and brother, H.B. Smith and wife, Tina.

Charlotte is also survived by ten grandchildren: Vanessa Cole, Chad Allan Smith and wife, Holly, Charley Smith and wife Beverly, Brent Haynie, Sarah Morris and husband, Ronnie, Eli Keith, Madison Keith, Katelyn Oxford, Cheyanne Oxford, and Makayla Oxford; 8 great grandchildren: Vanna, Trenton, Roslyn, Braesen, Kason, Rhaelyn, Zane, and Jayten; and 2 great-great grandchildren: Lilah, and Ivy. Each of them knew her as "Grammy," the matriarch who could always be counted on for a laugh, a hug, and maybe a little mischief. She will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.

Viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, May 26, 2025 at the Bishop Chapel of Memories.
