Alice Lenora Wood
Alice Lenora Wood, 95, of Indianola, died at her home on Sunday, September 29, 2019.
The family will receive friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 pm. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 3, at 10 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Chapel with the Rev. Fred Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Crowder Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brett Wood, Douglas Wood, Mark Wood, Michael Wood, Stephen Wood and Donnie Gragg.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Cathey, Gerald Monty, Joe Kitchens, Kenneth Hammond, James Prince, Don Parr and Daniel Williams.
Alice Lenora Wood was born on November 11, 1923, in Crowder, to Joseph Henderson and Jennie Helen (Gay) Wallen. She attended 12 years of school at Crowder, graduating from Crowder High School. She did undergraduate work at Oklahoma A&M, and received her bachelor's degree at Southeastern State College in Durant. She obtainer her master's degree at Northeastern State in Tahlequah.
Alice worked at Seamprufe for 12 years and taught school in New Mexico, Arizona, Montana and, finally, taught at Indianola Elementary School for 23 years. After her retirement she quilted for 30 years with the New Hope Quilters.
Alice is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, William Eugene Wood, of Tahlequah, and Timothy Ray Wood and wife, Nancy, of Aux Vasse, Missouri; two daughters and one son-in-law, Patsy Rockolyn (Wood) Gragg and husband, Don, of Indianola, and Beverly Lenora Wood, of Indianola; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Nellie Steidley, of Indianola, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jennie Wallen; her husband, Leonard B. Wood, who died on October 21, 2004; one daughter, Katherine Wood; a daughter-in-law, LaDonna Wood; a granddaughter, Tina Wood, and a great-grandson, Jesse Daniels.
The family would like to take this opportunity to give a special thanks to Hospice of McAlester for their excellent care.
The family also requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to New Hope Quilters of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church of Indianola.
