William "Bill" Griffin Jr. died Saturday evening, March 4, 2017, at a local nursing facility.
The family will greet friends at Bishop Funeral Home today between 6 and 8 p.m.
His funeral service will be on Thursday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery with Red Coleman officiating.
Active pallbearers are Danny Bridgwater, Butch Lecrone, Clem Santine, Tim Maxcey, Red Coleman and Dick Stites.
Bill was born on Oct. 5, 1920, in McAlester, to William E. and BeBe Evins Griffin. He attended schools in McAlester and graduated from McAlester High School.
He joined the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.
Bill married Wanda Marie Davenport in Okmulgee, and they were married for 71 years. He worked for the United States Postal Service for many years before retiring.
Bill was a member of the 2nd and Washington Church of Christ and then a member of the Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ. He and Wanda went throughout life arm and arm.
He is survived by a daughter, Kathye Griffin and her life partner, Betty Hughes, of Reno, Texas. He is also survived by his extended family, Jim and Bridget Paxton, of Atoka, Jennifer Clark and her husband, Kelly, of Antlers, and Jamie Dyer and her husband, Troy, of Pottsboro, Texas, and great-grandchildren, Madison, Maylee, Morgan, Griffin, Reid and Mason.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Wanda Griffin.
