Wayne Roy Collins Sr., 72, of McAlester, passed away peacefully, Thursday, June 22, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born in Oklahoma City, the son of Maynard and Bonnie Collins, and he was raised on the family farm. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1963 and began a career as a carpenter. First, on the road with Montgomery Ward, and then settling down in the McAlester area building homes and tending the family farm with his father.
He met Phyllis Calvert on a trip to Ontario, Canada, and they were married in 1994. Together, they enjoyed visits from their children and grandchildren to the farm, attending McAlester High School reunions and taking road trips to family reunions in Canada.
He had many lifelong friends and was proud of his Mud Creek roots.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Phyllis, of the home; son, Wayne R. Collins II, of Houston, Texas; daughter, Jennifer Collins Moseley and husband, Robert, of Houston, Texas; son, Joshua Collins and wife, Shannon, of Pensacola, Florida; step-son, Mike Calvert and wife, Kathy, Ontario, Canada, and step-daughter, Donna Mast and husband Joe, Ontario, Canada. Wayne also had six grandchildren, Makayla Mast, Melissa Mast, Megan Gibson and husband, Corey, Eric Calvert, Trent Moseley and Matthew Moseley, and three great-grand-children, Holley, Robert and Tanner Gibson.
The family extends special appreciation to Heartland Hospice Care of McAlester.
Memorial donations, in memory of Wayne, can be made to Heartland Memorial Fund in lieu of flowers.
A private memorial service will be held. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.
