Thelma Rosita (Thomas) Branscum, 88, of McAlester, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, in Tulsa.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, May 9, at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Mr. Kelly Benson. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brian Branscum, Andrew Ranallo, Robert Branscum, Larry Nowlin, Dwight Branscum, Clark Nowlin, Hugh Branscum, Gene Branscum and Maurice Branscum.
Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Ranallo and Chris Branscum.
Rosita was born on Nov. 18, 1928, to William and Ada (Christopher) Thomas, in Walls. Rosita loved to read and she read every book in the Leflore School library. She graduated from LeFlore High School and Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant and then obtained a master's degree in education from East Central University in Ada.
She married Paul Stanley Branscum in April 1948 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Rosita retired from Southwestern Bell in 1978 where she worked as chief operator. She enjoyed having lunch with the Southwestern Bell "Telephone Belles" club after retirement.
She then taught at Pittsburg High School before administering the GED program for McAlester School until retiring. She often worked as a substitute teacher in her retirement years. Rosita enjoyed her work and loved her job.
She raised Red Brangus cattle on the family ranch and was a member of the Red Brangus Association.
She was a regular at the McAlester Wellness Center Yoga class.
Rosita was a member of North Town Church of Christ.
She is survived by a son, Dwight Branscum and wife, Susan, of Austin, Texas; daughter, Melanie Ranallo and husband, Chris, of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Branscum, of Houston, Texas, and Chris Branscum, Adam Ranallo, Andrew Ranallo, and Angela Ranallo, all of Austin, Texas; beloved friend and niece, Bobbi Jo Dodd, of Summerfield; nieces and nephews, Clark, Gene, Hugh, Maurice, Rhonda, Connie, Cary, Phil, Sonny, Janice, Suzy, Elton and Larry, and other family members and friends.
Rosita was preceded in death by her parents, William Thomas and Ada Thomas; her husband, Paul Branscum, in 1985; sons, Paul Bradley Branscum, in 1991, and Gerald Douglas "Doug" Branscum, in 2013, and brothers, Don Nowlin and Vernon Nowlin.
