Richard's Story

Richard Leon McCarty, 76, of McAlester, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, in Oklahoma City.
Richard was born to Richard Elmer and Mary Esther (Martin) McCarty on Dec. 26, 1940, in Tannehill. He attended school in McAlester and Illinois and graduated from Thornton Township High School in Harvey, Illinois.
He joined the United States Navy and served on a navy destroyer that was involved in the naval military blockade of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
Richard married Patricia Murray on Sept. 24, 1966, in Harvey, Illinois. They moved to McAlester in 1971.
Richard worked for McAlester Regional Health Center for 17 years in the maintenance department. He then went to work for the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant as an electrician, retiring in 2005.
Richard loved to fish and had the ability to fix anything. He enjoyed making stained glass and cabinetry wood working, fishing, cruising and spending time with family. He has left a void and will truly be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Richard is survived by his wife, Patricia McCarty, of the home; son, Brian McCarty and wife, Brandy, of McAlester; daughter, Cindy Nicole Keef and husband, Shaun, of McAlester; son, Aaron McCarty, of Choctaw; grandchildren, Kaylie Schoggins, Morgan Keef, Kyler Keef, Hannah McCarty, Noah McCarty, Dalanie Keef, Braelynn McCarty and Hayden McCarty; great-granddaughter, Paisley Schoggins; brothers, Jerry McCarty and wife, Donna, of Midwest City, and Charles McCarty and wife, Jackie, of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; sister, Mae Humbles and husband, Ronald, of McAlester; brother-in-law, Mike Murray, of Manteno, Illinois, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Mary Ester McCarty; brother, Johnny Jones, and sister-in-law, JoAnn Jones.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bishop Funeral Service.
A Celebration of Life will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by Jimmy G. Ulibarri.
Cremation will follow with inurnment at Fort Gibson National Cemetery at a later date.
