Len's Story

Len Erick Etchison, 70, of Quinton, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2017, at his residence.
Len was born to Nathan Yancy and Frieda Martindale Etchison on July 19, 1946, in Quinton. He graduated from Quinton High School in 1964.
Len joined the United States Air Force and served from 1964 to 1968 in Big Spring, Texas.
He married Charlotte Elizabeth Kinstley on May 18, 1968, in Big Spring, Texas. Len worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller and weather specialist. He retired in 1994.
Len had served on the Indianola School Board for 10 years. Len served as an ordained Deacon for Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Quinton First Baptist Church for 35 years. Len was active in both churches and served as the Sunday school director, Sunday school teacher and taught AWANA's for over 40 years, where he led many to the Lord.
He also repaired windshields, raised horses and was a beekeeper. Len loved to tell corny jokes and brag about his grandchildren playing sports.
Len is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of the home; daughter, Kerri Lane and husband, Tim, of Sulphur Springs, Texas; son, Eric Etchison and wife, Angela, of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Amy Kennedy and husband, Josh, of Conway, Arkansas; he loved like a daughter, Julie Knockels and husband, Cale, of Oklahoma City; nine grandchildren and one expected in September; brothers, Martin Etchison and wife, Willie, of Broken Arrow, and Yancy Etchison and wife, Regina, of Quinton; sisters, Sue Owens and husband, Neal, of Fort Worth, Texas, Liz Dalberth and husband, Tom, of Webster, New York, Nadine Monroe and husband, Dan, of Catoosa, and Nancy Scott and husband, Don, of Wilburton; sisters-in-law, Patsy Greer and husband, Winston, of Reserve, Louisiana, Bea Williams and husband, Bob, of Midland, Texas, and Sheila Rills and husband, Gene, of Brusly, Louisiana; brother-in-law, Stan Kinstley and wife, Donna, of Mineola, Texas; 22 nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
Len was preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Etchison and Frieda Etchison, and father and mother-in-law, Lavol and Jane Kinstley.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 25, at Quinton First Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Jeff Bengs and the Rev. Don Parr. Burial will follow at Quinton Cemetery. Military honors rendered by the U.S. Air Force Honors Team.
Pallbearers will be Tim Lane, Josh Kennedy, Jordan Lane, Sam Kennedy, Fred Russell and Tony Miller.
Honorary pallbearers will be Patrick Stanfield, Tim Wise, Bob Greer, John Paul Denny, Lenny Shafer, Brian Burdick, Ramsey Carey and Bruce Wilson.
Arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.
