John Morris Weabe, 93, of Bristow Point, died Thursday, March 16, 2017, in McAlester.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Crowder Church of Christ with Bob Yount and Aaron Austin officiating. Burial will be at Massey Cemetery.
John Morris Weabe was born on Feb. 6, 1924, in Foraker, to Adolph and Josephine Weabe. His family later moved to Barnsdall, where John completed school and then moved to Oklahoma City.
He entered the United States Army in May 1943 and served overseas with Company A, 355th Engineer Regiment in England, France, Belgium and Germany. He received his honorable discharge at Camp Chaffee, Arkansas in January 1946.
Following his discharge, John followed his chosen occupation of general painter and traveled over several states as foreman of a crew of industrial painters. John retired in 1984 and moved to Bristow Point, where he made many friends and loved to fish in Lake Eufaula. He loved the area and the people and served as president of Bristow Point Property Owners Association.
He volunteered for both the Bristow Point Fire Department and the water Department. John served two terms as president of Crowder Senior Citizen's Center.
John loved to travel and always said he wanted to be where the action was. He did not like war, but he loved his "band of brothers" with whom he served. He attended numerous army reunions.
John loved Oklahoma University football, fishing and Bob Wills Western swing music.
John is survived by his wife, Carmelita Weabe, of the home; step-daughter, Candace Whinery and husband, Jack, of Claremore; step-sons, James Harvey and wife, Susan, of McAlester, and Timothy Harvey, of Bristow Point; step-grandchildren, John Whinery and wife, Ann, of Sapulpa, Christy Lusk and husband, Brad, of Bristow Point, Steve Harvey and wife, Katie, of Bristow Point, Buddy Harvey and wife, Steva, of Devola, Ohio, and Amber Wokaty and husband, Michael, of Lawton. Also, nine step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Floyd McCray, of Barnsdall, and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Cara Marie McCray, and Martha Ballinger and husband, Earl, and brothers, Adolph Weabe Jr., Nick Weabe and Captian Weabe.
Pallbearers will be Bill Black, Nick Weabe, Jim Harvey, Tim Harvey, Curt Smith and Jack Whinery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Rowland, James Smith, Mike Morgan, A.J. Bristow and Jack Shannon.
The family requests that memorial donations, in John's name, be made to National Parkinson Foundation, 200 SE 1st St., Miami, FL, 33131, or to Massey Cemetery Association, 2505 Pelican Dr., McAlester, OK, 74501.
