Joe Bertoldo, 88, of McAlester, died Saturday, July 22, 2017, in Durant.
Visitation will be today from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at Brumley-Mills Chapel with J.P. Hackler officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
The family requests memorial donations be made in his name to Central Christian Church of McAlester.
Pallbearers will be Garrett Hopper, Dylan Hopper, Johnny Grant, David Grant, Jimmy Bertoldo and Jason Barnett.
Honorary pallbearers are Bill Staples, Keith Fryer, J.P. Hackler, Lloyd Emmons and Don Hackler.
Joe Bertoldo was born on March 6, 1929, in Bache, to Giacomo Umberto and Theresa (Romano) Bertoldo. He was raised in Bache and attended Haileyville Schools.
After school he enlisted in the United States Army National Guard with the 45th Division.
He began his work career as a washer foreman for Lone Star Steel.
He was married to Wilma McCutcheon on April 24, 1951, in Tulsa.
It was on Sept. 1, 1950, the 45th Division was called into duty at the onset of the Korean War and Joe served two Years in Korea. In June 1952, he was honorably separated from active duty from the army and returned home.
He worked for McAlester Tobacco and Candy then later for Million Ford. In 1963 he became employed by Lockheed Aircraft for 16 years. A lay off came and then he was called by Boeing Aircraft and retired from Boeing in December 1993.
He was a member of First Christian Church where he served as deacon and many other ministries and was a boy scout Leader.
At the time of his death, he was member of Central Christian Church.
Joe was a little league baseball coach. He enjoyed sports, golf, fishing and was an Oklahoma University football fan.
Joe is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Harrison Stepp, of Kingston; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Tonia Bertoldo, of Arlington, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Garrett Hopper, of Manhattan, Kansas,Dylan Hopper, of Tulsa, Ashley Earwood, of Millington,Tennessee, and Alexis Monroe, of Bartlett, Tennessee.
Also, great-grandsons, Ryder Monroe, of Bartlett, Tennessee, and Easton Stumbo, of Millington, Tennessee.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Giacomo and Theresa Bertoldo; his wife, Wilma Bertoldo, who died on Feb. 28, 1991; two sisters, Clotilde McFarland and Minnie Rich, and two brothers, Steve and Johnni Bertoldo.
