Jeanetta's Story

Jeanetta (Miller) Weeks, 81, of Haskell, formerly of Canadian, passed away on Friday, July 14, 2017, at St. Johns Medical Center in Tulsa.
She was born in Eldorado, on March 3, 1936, and raised on a farm in Sentinel. She graduated from Port High School in 1954 and later attended Oklahoma City University where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in religious education and music.
After graduation, she accepted a job with the Grand Avenue United Methodist Church in McAlester as a religious education director. While working there, she married her lifelong husband, Hollis Weeks, of Canadian.
Jeanetta and Hollis accepted teaching positions in Springfield, Colorado. After Springfield, she stayed home to raise her daughter, Twila, for the next five years.
The family moved to Okmulgee and she taught kindergarten for the next two years. Later she taught for three years in the McAlester Public Schools as a kindergarten teacher.
She finished her teaching career as a first grade teacher for Canadian Public Schools. While teaching at Canadian Public Schools for 20 years, she implemented a new reading program that many public schools used for their elementary reading program. As a summary of her teaching career, she taught hundreds of students in kindergarten and first grade how to read and write.
After retirement, she moved to Haskell and pursued the career of being a grandmother for her two grandsons.
She will lovingly be remembered by her husband, Hollis, of the home; daughter, Twila Berry and husband, Landon Berry, of Haskell, and her pride and joy, grandsons, Bradon Berry and Briley Berry.
Also, she is survived by her sister, Donna Zwick and husband, Al Zwick, of Hutchinson, Kansas, and their two children, Brad and Carman, and family; sister-in-law, Doris Miller, of Davenport, Iowa, and her two children, Allen and Anita, and family, and several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Opal Miller, and brother, Gene Miller.
Wednesday, July 19, at 9 a.m., there will be a viewing at Hallum Hall at Canadian United Methodist Church for family and friends.
The services will start at 10 a.m. in the church sanctuary.,Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in McAlester after the services.
