James Roy "Lefty" Thomas, 95, of McAlester, died Sunday, March 12, 2017.
James was born to James F. and Mary C. (McGuire) Thomas January 20, 1922, in Kirkland, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. James married Mary Evelyn Swearingin on December 31, 1945, in Montague, Texas and they lived in Tyler, Texas before moving to McAlester in 1982. James worked as an oilfield tools sales representative until retirement. James was an avid golfer.
He is survived by a son, Stephen M. Thomas of Oklahoma City; daughters, Terry Stramer and husband John of Houston, Texas, Carolyn K. King of Coconut Creek, Florida, Annie Layden of McAlester; grandchildren, Jeanne Stramer, Stephanie Starkey, Stacie Evans, Mike Thomas, Logan Layden and Lyle Layden; great grandchildren, Olivia LaZama, Corey Evans, Sophia Starkey, Jacob Starkey, Addison Starkey, Donavan Sprivey, Grayson Thomas and Jack Fortney.
James was preceded in death by his parents: James F. and Mary C. Thomas; his wife, Mary E. Thomas on February 20, 1982.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.
