James Clinton Pope, 76, of McAlester, formerly Hartshorne, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at McAlester Regional Health Center.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Monday, March 20, at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hartshorne with Clint Pope officiating.
James Clinton Pope was born on Dec. 24, 1940, in Sapulpa, to Bernard and Beulah (Goodwin) Pope. He graduated high school in Kiefer.
James worked as a truck driver, transporting gasoline for Texaco for a number of years. He had lived in Hartshorne since 2000.
James served his country as a member of the Oklahoma National Guard.
He and his wife, Linda, were married in January 1991, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas.
James was a big fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and dominoes. He also raised chickens and loved riding his mule, Jasper.
James was of the Baptist faith.
James is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Clint and Sheri Pope, of Hartshorne; daughter and son-in-law, Jerri Lozano and Gary Deeringwater; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jimmy Pope, Kimberly Pope and her daughter, Brooklin, Sara and Albert Cervantes and their son, Aiden, Diana Klingsick and her son, Braden, Jana and Anthony Carrasco and their sons, Josiah and Izaih, and Joshua Jordan, and a brother, Tom Pope, of Kiefer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Linda, and a brother, B. J. Pope.
