Hugh's Story

Hugh Crisler Finger passed away on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at his home.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1929, in Collierville, Tennessee, the last of 12 children born to Joseph and Easter (Carter) Finger.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by the Rev. Rod Briggs. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery with United States Marine Corps Honors.
He proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps from Sept. 28, 1946, to Sept. 27, 1949, and again Dec. 11, 1950, to April 12, 1952, when he was honorably discharged.
When stationed in McAlester at the U.S. Naval Base, he met and married Mary Josephine Oldham on April 6, 1949. They had one son, Joseph Milton Finger.
Mary proceeded him in death on Jan. 9, 2000.
Being a scratch golfer, he was an original member of the Thunder Creek Golf Course, the seniors maintaining nine holes after Thunder Creek closed, River Valley Golf Association and Arrowhead Golf Association.
He was a retired letter carrier and a lifetime member of the local union.
Hugh was a member of McAlester First Baptist Church, the Gym Sunday School Class and Les Feldick Bible Study group.
He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 9, American Legion Post No. 79, and a lifetime member of DAV No. 20. Representing the Elks BPOE Lodge No. 533, he visited Talihina Veterans Hospital.
He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Tammie Finger; granddaughter, Mary Finger; fiance', Marian Wright, and many friends.
