Helen Marie Key, 75, of McAlester, died Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Sparks Medical Center in Ft. Smith. The family will receive friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitation for Mrs. Key will also be available on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday until 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Frink Baptist Church with Rev. James Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Key's grandchildren.
Helen M. Key was born on Dec. 27, 1941, in Coalgate to Roy and Susie Mae (Summers) Thomas. She grew up there and graduated from Coalgate High School. She married Walter Everett Key on April 19, 1958, in Durant and they have made McAlester their home since 1967. Helen had worked as a nurses aid and at Komar for a brief time, but was mainly a housewife and mother. Helen was very active in the Choctaw Senior Citizens and loved spending time there with her friends. Her favorite times were spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Frink Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Walter Everett Key of the home; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gregory M. Key of McAlester and Dennis Key and wife, Michal, of Oklahoma City and one daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly J. McFarland and husband, Ken, of Owasso. Also, seven grandchildren, Krista Loudermilk and husband, Kevin, Cody Key and wife, Emily, Magen Key, Stephen Key, Jonathan Key, Haley McFarland and Kacie McFarland and two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Loudermilk and Eleanor Key. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
