Gayler K. Wilkins, 83, of Lakeland, Florida, went to be with the Lord peacefully on Wednesday, May 3, 2017.
He and his wife, Patricia, were married 61 years and retired to Florida in 2004.
He was born in Kiowa, where he spent most of his life working with cattle and horses. He enjoyed going to the horse races and fishing.
Gayler served in the United States Air Force, where he met his wife while in Wichita, Kansas.
He was employed at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant as an electronic technician for 20 years. He also owned a pipe rental business with his brother, Joe Wilkins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bessie and Clyde Wilkins, and his brother, Royce Wilkins, all of Kiowa.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia, of Lakeland, Florida; his son, Buddy Wilkins, of Oklahoma City; his daughter and son-in-law, Suzy and Grant Gamel, of Plant City, Florida; his grandchildren, Lindsay Surginer, of McAlester, Kristen Brooks, of Plant City, Florida, and Briana Gamel, of Amman, Jordan; great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Brynli White, and Adelyn and Dominic Hernandez, also of McAlester, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins still living in the Oklahoma area.
He had a heart as big as a bear and was loved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will always be living in the hearts of his family and will be sorely missed.
