Burl Virgil Wood, 83, of Crowder, died Friday, June 23, 2017, at his residence.
Graveside funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, at Crowder Cemetery officiated by the the Rev. Jamie Kirkpatrick.
Pallbearers will be James Walters, Steve Walters, Bill Wood, Timmy Wood, Waymon Wood Jr., Tony Brown and Jason Walter.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Bell, Eddie Walters, John Walters, Sonny Walters, Jimmy Corder and Deward Wood.
Burl was born Feb. 28, 1934, in Massey, to Albert and Minnie (Lightle) Wood. He attended Indianola school.
Burl served in the United States Army for two years and received an honorable discharge.
Burl married Erma Walters on Jan. 11, 1955, in McAlester. Burl worked as a heat and air conditioner installer and repairman for several years before retiring.
He was a member of the Assembly of God faith.
Burl enjoyed fishing and living by the lake.
He is survived by his wife, Erma Wood, of the home; special niece, Jackie Brown and husband, Tony Brown; granddaughter, Skylar Wood, of Indianola; brothers, Deward Wood, of Crowder, and Marion Wood, of Indianola; sister, Nellie Stiedley and husband, Jerry, of Indianola; brothers-in-law, Eddie Walters, of Crowder, Sonny Walters and wife, Emma, of McAlester, and John Walters and wife, Ethel Walters, of McAlester; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Peggy Cox, of Crowder, and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers and two sisters.
