Betty Lou White, 83, of McAlester, went to be with her heavenly family on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at her home.
Betty Lou was born on Jan. 15, 1934, on the family homestead in Shady Grove, to Clayton and Ruby (Free) Riley.
She married James Nicholas White on June 3, 1954. Besides being a full time mother of five active children and gardening, canning, and sewing, Betty Lou also found time to work outside the home at the K.C. Laundry Service in North Town, at Southwestern Bell as an operator, and retired from the bomb and mine department of the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant in 1999.
During her spare time, she loved to embroidery and attend local bluegrass festivals.
She is survived by her son, Jimmy White and wife, Annette, of McAlester; daughters, Susan McClelland and husband, Ron, of Parsons, Kansas, and Gayle Wilkinson, of Bache; grandchildren, Leslie White Hunter and husband, Denver, James Dailey White and wife, Haley, Linda McClelland, Stanley Wilkinson and wife, Hanna, Jacob Wilkinson, Lucas Wilkinson, Waylon White and wife, Kim, James Clayton White and wife, Angie, Melissa Kay White, Anthony White and wife, Brett, Will White, and Ashlie Ridenour and husband, Rodney; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Thomas and husband, Buddy, of Indianola; brother, John Riley, of Topeka, Kansas, and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Betty Lou was preceded in death by her husband, James Nicholas White, in 2013; parents, Clayton and Ruby Riley; sons, Michael Albert White and Roger Clayton White; grandsons, Nicholas McClelland, Jeffrey Boatright and Justin Roger Beams, and sister and brother-in-law, Carol and E.J. Allford.
The family will greet friends today from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 23, at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Parr and the Rev. Kerry Kirkhart officiating. Interment will follow at Indianola Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James Dailey White, Stanley Don Wilkinson, Jacob Dailey Wilkinson, Lucas Hailey Wilkinson, William Dale White and Waylon Lee White.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Clayton White, Anthony Faye White, Chris Shirley, Justin Dale Shirley, J.E. Weeks and Jim Schumacher.
Arrangements entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.
