Zettie's Story

Text size

Our mother, granny and friend, Zettie Mae (Smith) Swindle, left us for her heavenly home on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, in McAlester, at the age of 93.
Mae was one of 11 children born to Edgar Augusta and Dicie Jane (Meeks) Smith on Aug. 23, 1923, in Ripley, Mississippi.
She married Dewey Swindle and was a homemaker. Mae loved to read and do crossword puzzles. She loved her family and church family and her greatest joy was when they would visit her. Mae especially enjoyed the visits from the sister missionaries when they would sing to her. She was grateful for the staff of Mitchell Manor and had pet names for each of them.
Mae was a member of McAlester Ward Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Mae is survived by her children, Linda Cooley, of Woodland Park, Colorado, Sam Swindle, of Lakeland, Florida, Margie Walker, of Lakeland, Florida, and Dot Ward and husband, Jack, of Lincoln, Nebraska; son-in-law, Dale Price, of McAlester; grandchildren, Chris Cooley and wife, Christie, Jason Cooley, Veronica Osburn, Stevan Walker and wife, Amanda, David Walker, Rachelle Creamer and husband, Mike, Richard Griffis, Barbara Nahinu, Joshua Price and wife, Elizabeth, Dillion Price, and Nicole Boyer and husband, Ty; 23 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren, and a beloved caregiver, Debbie Goforth.
