William "Poe"'s Story

William Napoleon "Poe" Browning, 93, of McAlester, died Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at his residence.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 21, at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by the Rev. Clint Pope. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Butch Mellor, David Scott, Tom Howard, Bill McMahan, Ron Hunt and Bill Morrow.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gilbert "Gib" Eddington, Micky Lloyd, Tim Flood and John Hancock.
Poe was born to Everett and Edna Browning on Sept. 18, 1923, in McCurtain. He joined the United States Air Force and served stateside during World War II.
He married Helen Laverne Haggard on June 8, 1946, and she preceded him in death in 1991.
Poe worked for Holsum Bakery for over 18 years. He then owned and operated Browning's Mini Storage.
He married Mary Ann (White) Collins on July 10, 1993, in McAlester.
Poe was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Lodge No. 9 in North Town, and had received his 50 year blue cap.
He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Hartshorne.
Poe loved to garden flowers and he enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, of the home; sons, Larry "Charlie Brown" Browning, of McAlester, and Jim Collins and wife, Ronda, of Haileyville; daughter, Tami Kelley and husband, Pat, of Broken Arrow; daughter-in-law, Rose Ann Browning, of McAlester; grandchildren, Kristen Lloyd and husband, Micky, of McAlester, Sunnie Flood and husband, Tim, of Colleyville, Texas, Josh Collins and wife, Kristin, of Blanchard, Megan Riley and husband, James, of Hartshorne, Caleb Collins of Norman, Kassidee Kelley, of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Miranda Kelley, of Tulsa; great-grandchildren, Sydney Lloyd, Brenner Lloyd, Katie Flood, Daniel Flood, Vivian Flood, Halle Collins, Collyn White, and Kynslee Riley; sister-in-law, Marian Hancock, of McAlester, and numerous other family members and friends.
Poe was preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Edna Browning; his first wife, Helen, in 1991, and son, Danny Browning in 2007.
