William Henry Bernard, 87, of McAlester, died Saturday evening, March 3, 2018, at a local nursing facility.

William was born to Raymond Conrad and Mary Jane Parish Bernard on August 11, 1930, in Bethany. He attended the last two years of high school at McAlester High School, where he graduated from.
William was a school teacher and taught in several southern California towns. He taught both auto shop and history throughout his career. He was a teacher from about 1966 until 1984 when he retired.
He was married to Ruth Elaine Murphy on March 25, 1999, in Henderson, Nevada.
William belonged to several teacher associations, was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and was a pilot. He was also a past worker at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California, and he was a Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Elaine Bernard, of the home; a son, Ray Bernard, of Boise, Idaho; a daughter and spouse, Linda and Robert Lerman, of Mesquite, Nevada; two step-children, Bill Taylor, of Chambers, and Renae Jeffreys and her spouse, Jim, of Canadian; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren, and six great-step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, and a sister.
