Virgil Rich, 92, of Krebs, died Friday, Nov. 24, 2017, at Muskogee V.A. Hospital.
A graveside memorial service is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 4, at 2 p.m. at Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester.
Virgil Rich was born on March 3, 1925, in Krebs, to Dan and Angella (Sellars) Rich. He grew up there and had lived in Krebs all his life.
Virgil worked for the Coca-Cola Bottling Company in McAlester as a young man, then joined the United States Army in 1943 and served as a combat infantryman in World War II until his honorable discharge in 1945. He was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal.
When he returned, he worked at the McAlester Naval Ammunition Depot for a few years.
Virgil is survived by one sister and brother-in-law, Angelina and Ron Jones, of Wilburton; nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Philles Van Horn Alessi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dominic, Nicolas and Louis; a sister, Marie, and a nephew, John.
