Sandra Jean Johnson, 71, of McAlester, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2017, at Walnut Grove Living Center in McAlester.
Sandra was born on July 12, 1946, in Utica, New York, to William R. Doty and Rosalind Farr Doty. She married Eugene Johnson on Sept. 29, 1980, in Durant.
Sandra moved from New York to Texas in the mid 60s, then moved to Oklahoma in 1980.
Sandra loved her dogs, Shorty, Homer, Scooter and Murphey, but most of all loved her family.
Sandra was a great cook and enjoyed sewing for her family. She was talented and could do anything that she set her mind to. She enjoyed reading and traveling.
She was a true Yankee and chocolate held a special place in her heart. She always made it a point to have her nails and make-up on. She was a great shopper and loved to give gifts. Music was very special to her.
As a young person she loved ice skating and the snow in New York. Christmas was her favorite time of the year.
She was a wonderful story teller and told of her years in New York, how she was raised on a dairy farm and rode the subway. She was a spitfire and a real force to deal with when it came to her kids and family.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Eugene Johnson, of the home; daughter; Khristy Rains, of Holdenville, and her children, Meloney Provence and husband, Coy, of Holdenville, Nikki Kilhooffer and Tyler, of Altus, and Anthony Rains, of Tampa, Florida; daughter, Lori Barnett and husband, John, of Denison, Texas, and their children, Brittani Barnett and Christopher Barnett, of Denison, Texas; sister, Sally Nunley, of Denison, Texas; six great-grandchilden, Aiden, Gracie and Stevie Provence, Jack and Andi Killhoffer, and Kinslee Ann Barnett, of Denison, and other relative and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Graveside service were held at Chapel on The Hill, Cedarlawn Cemetery, in Sherman, Texas, on Monday, Nov. 13, with Minister Gary Davenport officiating.
Arrangements were under the direction of American Funeral Service of Denison, Texas.
