Ronald "Ronnie" Edward Smith, of McAlester, Oklahoma, died Saturday, December 16, 2017, in Muskogee at the age of 73.
Ronnie was born September 16, 1944, in Indianola, Oklahoma to Henry Artis Smith and Effie Irene (Blevins) Smith. He married Thelma Jo Snow of McAlester on October 22, 1965.
Ronnie served in the Oklahoma National Guard, owned and operated Bert's Bait Shop and worked as a precision machinist for several manufacturing companies. He was hard-working and in his free time enjoyed fishing, hunting and participating in dance competitions. He loved music and was an excellent guitar player.
He is survived by his three children, Ronald Smith and wife, Tammy, of Hartshorne, Michele Davis and husband, Thomas, of Savanna and Holly Rhyne and husband, Tod, of Wardville; aunt, Betty Stafford, of Krebs; mother of his children, Thelma Jo Clark, of McAlester; grandchildren, Ryan Smith, of McAlester, Rachel Giaudrone and husband, Chase, of McAlester, Shala Smith, of Hartshorne, Ronni Golden and husband David, of McAlester, April Jeffries, of McAlester, Amanda Jeffries, of McAlester, Cortland Glover and wife, Devon, of Oklahoma City, Grayson Hall, Landon Hall and Hannah Rhyne, all of Wardville; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Rosa Fay Hayes, of Crowder, Bill Smith and wife, Pat, of Port Naches, Texas, Jerome Smith and wife, Shirley, of Rockwall, Texas, Donnie Smith and wife, Sharon, of Arroyo-Hondo, New Mexico, John Smith, of Wylie, Texas and Jim Smith and wife, Opal, of Wylie, Texas; long-time friend and fishing buddy, Lester Wray, of McAlester; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6-8 at Chaney Harkins Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 21, 2017, at the Northside Assembly of God Church of McAlester with the Rev. Brian Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Memorial Park Cemetery, McAlester, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be Robert Smith, Grayson Hall, Landon Hall, Cortland Glover, Donnie Smith and David Robertson.
