Oran "Doy"'s Story

Oran S. "Doy" Shannon, 85, of Pittsburg, died February 8, 2018, in Okemah.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on February 12 at First Baptist Church of Pittsburg officiated by the Rev. Linda Snider. Burial will follow in Kiowa Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.
Pallbearers will be Paul Tusken, Aaron Tusken, Jordan Tanner, Brandon Colby, Ryan Deaton and Terry James.
Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Vann, Bud Shannon and Paul Stewart.
Doy was born to Jonas S. and Lora Belle (Byrd) Shannon on August 27, 1932, in Pittsburg. He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1950.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft mechanic during the Korean War era.
Doy married Shirley Fay Mitchell on April 29, 1955, in Kiowa. He worked for Braniff International Airways for 25 years as an aircraft mechanic at Love Field in Dallas, Texas. He then worked for Dalfort Aviation and retired in 1995.
Doy enjoyed fishing, farming and mechanics. He was of the Baptist faith.
Doy is survived by his wife, Shirley, of the home; daughters, Connie Vann and husband, Robert, of Hurst, Texas, and Cheryl Stewart and husband, Paul, of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Brandon Colby and wife, Kristen, of Wylie, Texas, Ryan Deaton, of Dallas, Texas, Paul Tusken and wife, Colleen, of Fort Worth, Texas, Ashley Simon and husband, Jesse, of Keller, Texas, Aaron Tusken and wife, Ana, of Ponder, Texas, Jordan Tanner and wife, Savannah, of Justin, Texas, and Caitlyn Tanner, of Grapevine, Texas; great-grandchildren, Jaxon, Savannah, London, McKenzie, Remington, Coltan, Jacob and Aiden; brother, Buddy Shannon and wife, Donna, of Pittsburg; sister, Dorothy Pope and husband, Jimmy, of Byhalia, Mississippi, and numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Doy was preceded in death by his parents, Jonas and Lora Shannon; a son, Ronald Oran Shannon; sister, Cindy James, and a brother, Coy Shannon.
