Opal Smith, a servant of the Lord, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 20, 2018, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 94.
Opal was born on September 25, 1923, at the Orphan Indian's Home between Wardville and Maudie.
She married Joe L. Smith on October 30, 1945.
During her life, Opal worked some at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant and at Komar Manufacturing.
However, her true career was a homemaker as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Opal loved material and immensely enjoyed quilting and sewing.
She was a member of Kiowa First Baptist Church and was both the longest running member and oldest member of the Church.
She is survived by her eight children, Joe Smith and wife, Kath, of Kiowa, John Smith of Kiowa, Frances Vaughn and husband, Clifford, of Pittsburg, Jeanne Drake and husband, Danny, of Kiowa, Mary Louise Lloyd and husband, Ivan, of Summerfield, Jimmy Smith and wife, Sharon, of McAlester, Jerry Smith, of Kiowa, and Patty Wheat and husband, Joey, of Summerfield; 21 plus grandchildren; 34 plus great-grandchildren and one on the way; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and friends.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Joe L. Smith Sr., in 1986; parents, William Franklin Yoast and Maggie (Frances (Hough) Yoast; granddaughter, Jessica Lynn Smith; great-granddaughter, Amaya Nichole Drake; daughter-in-law, Kelly Smith; one sister, and eight brothers.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Chaney's Memorial Chapel.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kiowa First Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Piearcy officiating.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
