Melvin Stubbings

Melvin Stubbings, of Chicago, Illinois, Tulsa and McAlester, left this life on the 6th of April 2019.
Mel was born to Ralph and Pauline Stubbings in Chicago, Illinois, on January 20, 1941. He graduated from Tulsa's Central High School, afterward serving in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1962.
On December 1, 1962, he web Sherry Clanton, to whom he was married for 56 years, until his passing. Mel's professional career was long and storied. He worked at North American Aviation, which later became Rockwell International. During his tenure, he served as a quality inspector, and as production plant manager in Tulsa, McAlester and Melbourne, Australia, retiring in April of 1996.
While balancing job and family, Mel was also able to attain his bachelor's degree in mathematics from the University of Tulsa. His sights were soon set on a master's degree, but as his responsibilities and priorities of job and family grew, his pursuit of his advanced degree ended. None-the-less, his passion for learning: numbers, mathematics and statistics, never faltered, and knew no bounds. That commitment to education expressed itself best in his ability to send his three children to Oklahoma State University, his daughter earning a bachelor's degree in statistics and his eldest son, a master's degree in electrical engineering.
While Mel intensely pursued a successful career, it was the coaching of his children's soccer teams that was his pure joy.
Mel's life and legacy are celebrated by his wife Sherry; his three children, Cindy, Kevin and Eric; his son-in-law, Bryan; his daughter-in-law, Heather; his three grandchildren, Aaron, Aidan and Conor, as well as his brothers, Wayne and Albert and their families.
In death, Mel does as he did in life; encouraging science knowledge and learning.

Stubbings family, we are so sorry to hear of Mel's passing. Larry just said, "Everybody liked Mel." That's quite a legacy. Prayers for peace for all of you.

We saw Mel's obituary in the Tulsa paper and wanted to let you know our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. We had completely lost touch and even the boys have asked if we have heard from you. We are sorry this is the occasion that connected us again!
