Matthew Doyle Smith, 29, of McAlester, died Monday, January 22, 2018, near Quinton.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, January 30, at 2 p.m. at McAlester Southeast Expo Center with Pastor Clifford Joines officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Matthew was born on December 20, 1988, in McAlester, to Doyle W. Jr. and Edith E. (Long) Smith. He had a bachelors degree in wildlife and fisheries management and a minor in conservation.
He married Julie Renae Weeks on May 16, 2009, in McAlester. He worked in the oilfield as a motorhand on Rig 219.
He was a lifelong resident of McAlester and loved hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He was also an Eagle Scout.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Renae (Weeks) Smith; his 16 month old son, Rhett Matthew Smith; parents, Doyle Jr. and Edith Smith; grandparents, Jenny Long Snider, Jack and Sharon Whisenhunt, and Doyle Smith Sr.; one brother, Bryan Andrew Smith; one sister and brother-in-law, Emily Elizabeth (Smith) Parker and husband, Clint; nieces, Emersyn Parker and Tinsley Smith, and a nephew, Tristen Parker.
Matthew was preceded in death by his grandfather, Estes Long, and uncles, Johnny Long, Ed Tadlock and Scotty Whisenhunt.
Honorary pallbearers will be Matt's oilfield brothers.
