Mary Lou Brock, formerly of McAlester, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, February 13, 2018, in Purcell, at the age of 89.
Mary Lou was born in New Albany, Indiana, to Albert Willis and Frances (Ayers) Willis. She married Navarro Brock and they had five children. She spent her life working as a homemaker for her husband, children and grandchildren and found time to volunteer with the nursing home ministries, was an avid bridge player and a member of the Glory Singers. She also worked part-time at Pioneer Abstract.
Mary Lou was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Church in McAlester since 1973 where she was also a member of the Ladies Guild.
Mary Lou was a very kind and generous person and would make you feel welcomed and loved just with her smile.
She is survived by her children, Rebecca James and husband, Terry, of Norman, William J. Brock, of McAlester, and Mary Beth Brock, of Purcell; son-in-law, Jerry Edgin and wife, Martha, of Norman;
five grandchildren, Craig Dodds, of Norman, Aaron James and wife, Jessica Gibson James, of Washington, Illinois, Michael James, of Choctaw, Kyle Brock and wife, Jessica, of Edmond, and Jessie Brock Brown and husband, Kody, of Noble; great-grandchildren, Braden Dodds, Maddie and Callie James, Gabe, Gage and Gabby Brown, and Ben Brock.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Navarro Brock; daughter, Sharon Edgin; infant daughter, Theresa Ann Brock. and her parents, Albert and Frances Willis.
The family will greet friends today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Chaney's Memorial Chapel.
The Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday, February 16, at St. John Evangelist Church celebrated by the Rev. Leonard Higgins. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in McAlester.
Pallbearers will be Michael James, Craig Dodds, Aaron James, Kody Brown, Kyle Brock and Braden Dodds.
Memorial contributions may be made in Mary Lou's memory to St. John's Catholic Church in McAlester or Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Purcell.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Westbrook Living Center's staff and her new friends for their many acts of kindness to our mother.
