Marva E. Harvey, 78, of McAlester, passed away on Nov. 22, 2017, at Kaiser Medical Center in Oakland, California.
The memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, 1100 E. Chickasaw in McAlester, with Pastor, Elder Willie Drumgo and the Rev. Grover Walker officiating.
Marva was born May 14, 1939, in McAlester, to George Pearson and Marva June Bryson. Her first church membership was at East Star Baptist Church of McAlester, under the pastorship of the Rev. M.M. Williams.
She attended L'Overture School and was a graduate in the Class of 1957. She was later blessed with her only son, James. Two years later she moved to New York where she would be blessed with three more beautiful children, her daughters. There she would also become a business owner and work for many years.
In 1983, Marva moved to Oakland, California, and began a new career as a correctional peace officer at the San Quentin State Prison. Her children accompanied her in support of her new endeavor. After retiring from there, she became a property manager for East Bay Asian Local Development until she retired.
Marva loved the lord with all of her heart and her greatest passion was doing His work. She kept her relationship with him strong and leaned on His divine guidance.
In 2015, she would move back to her original hometown of McAlester, where she not only went to work for Kibois Community Action's Developmentally disabled living program but she also continued her work in the ministry. In 2004 she was ordained to spread the word of God and she did just that at every opportunity that she got. She ministered at various facilities, organizations, churches, on her job, on the streets, in the stores, and even in the homes of the sick and the shut-in.
She was a faithful member of Holy Temple Church of God in Christ under the pastorship of Elder Willie Drumgo, until her health began to fail, which prompted a relocation back to California.
Marva leaves the following to cherish her precious memories, her children, James, Lynetta and Debbra; grandchildren, Neffitiria, Lianetta, April, Prince, Elizabeth and Kenneth Jr.; great-grandchildren, Keon, Ronald, Davant and A'miracle; one very special cousin, Cletis Lowe Jr.; a very special friend, Ms. Charlotte Voss, and, a host of extended relatives and countless friends, all of which whom will miss her dearly.
