Mark Joseph Savage, 53, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
Family will receive friends on Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Brumley-Mills Chapel in Hartshorne with Pastor Jeremy Lalli officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Hartshorne.
Mark was born on June 26, 1964, in Hartshorne, to Mike and Margaret (Hawkins) Savage. He was a graduate of Haileyville High School and attended Eastern Oklahoma State College and also Tulsa Welding School.
He joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard at an early age.
He worked for Meeco Marina in McAlester and Wisconsin locations as a welder and later was a welder for Coors Brewing Company in Golden, Colorado, where he specialized in stainless steel welding.
He retired after 20 years with the Oklahoma State Penitentiary.
He was a member of the Combat Support Company, 1st Battalion, 180th Infantry of Hartshorne for nine years, leaving his position due to an injury while he was a correctional officer.
He was a cub scout leader and little league football coach. After retirement, he had a 13 year career as a carpenter. He also operated Danny's Pool Hall.
He always had a project he was working on or was waiting for. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He was caretaker for his son's dog, Bulldog, who was more than a family pet.
He enjoyed sharing stories with anyone, he never met a stranger. He had the best memory of anyone his age and enjoyed talking to the old-timers.
His hobbies were not limited to hunting, fishing, shooting pool and competing in field trials. He could build anything and was a very talented carpenter.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Ashley O'Donnell; granddaughters, Tyley and Talynn, of McAlester; step-son, Roger Holt, of Hartshorne; four sisters a brother-in-law, Michelle and Skip George, of Merced, California, Mollie Lindsey, of Haileyville, Margie Whitehouse, of Krebs, and Melinda Savage, of Haileyville; three nephews, Nick Whitehouse, of Haileyville, Billy Cornish, of Oceanside, California, and James Savage, of Haileyville; three nieces, Stephanie Beshear, of Krebs, Jamie Whitehouse-Mason, of Bache, and Whitney Cornish, of Merced, California; great-nephews, Hunter Mason and Spencer Maddux; great-nieces, Tory Mason and Aubry Whitehouse, and uncle, Frank Savage, of Piedmont.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Margaret Savage; son, Tiler Savage, and brother, Michael Savage.
Active pallbearers will be Nick Whitehouse, Roger Holt, Cleo Beshear, James Savage, Hunter Mason and Spencer Maddux.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bryan Mason, Henry Lopez, Mitch Lindsey, Mike Grivette, Billy Hughes, Roy Hendrick, Billy Ray Wansick, Eddie Morgan and the past and present OSP Correctional Officers.

Obituary published in
