Marguerite's Story

Marguerite Sadler, 92, of McAlester, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, in McAlester.
The family will receive friends at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Friday, March 3, from 6 to 7 p.m. with the Rosary recited immediately afterward by Deacon Danny Brennan.
Private graveside services for immediate family only will be held at Mount Calvary Cemetery with Father Leonard Higgins officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of McAlester.
Marguerite Sadler was born on Nov. 10, 1924, in Krebs, to Vito and Mary (Giacomo) Barzellone. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1942, where she was the basketball queen and was involved in several other school activities.
After graduation, she attended Christian College, now Columbia College of Missouri, where she was active in clubs and organizations and earned an associate of arts degree.
She married her childhood sweetheart, J.T. Sadler Jr., upon his return from World War II, on Feb. 10, 1946, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Krebs. In 1950 they moved to McAlester, where they raised their three children and were life members of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and were blessed with 65 years of marriage.
After graduating from college, Marguerite worked for a local bank before working for several years as the bookkeeper and office manager for her father's company, S.D. Giacomo Company in Krebs.
Most of her life she was a homemaker and especially enjoyed being involved in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Her hobbies centered on cooking, playing bridge with friends and participating in dances at the McAlester Country Club.
Along with her husband, Marguerite was a member and officer of United Commercial Travelers, a charitable organization supporting special Olympics and several other non-profit community service organizations. Her husband's speaking engagements within this organization allowed them to travel all over the United States and Canada.
Survivors include her daughter, Marilyn Thrasher and husband, Bob, of McAlester; her son, Jim Sadler and wife, Deborah, of Krebs, and grandchildren, Amy Wilson and husband, Greg, of Jenks, Ryan Thrasher and wife, Sally, of Stillwater, Trevor Sadler and wife, Catasha, of Krebs, Kristen Dickerson and husband, James, of Copper Mountain, Colorado, and Michael Sadler, of Krebs. Also, great-grandchildren, Lauren Thrasher, Isabella Dickerson, Bella and Lakyn Sadler and Leyton Wilson, as well as numerous nieces and n ephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, J. T. Sadler Jr.; a son, George Sadler, and a brother, George Barzellone.
