Loretta May Bernhardt, 90, of McAlester, died on Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at a local nursing center.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, July 6, at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7, at First Freewill Baptist Church of McAlester with Brent Jarrett, Bill Kirk and Steve Mayhew officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Burial will be at Tannehill Cemetery.
She was the daughter of Bert and Nira Ott, born on March 7, 1928, in Pittsburg County. She graduated from Indianola High School in 1946, and married Johnnie Bernhardt in 1950. He died in 2014.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-laws, Alta and Bill Messbarger, Pam and Ronnie Ragan, and Sue and Lou Lyles; one son, Allen Bernhardt; two sisters, Dorothy and her husband, Gene Uselton, and Faye Bowen; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She spent her life caring for her family and her home. She was active in her church, loved to cook and garden and was an expert seamstress and quilt maker.
