Lois's Story

Lois Jane Mass passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, at her home in Hartshorne, surrounded by her eight children. She was 88 years old.
Family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in Hartshorne.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at Main and Oklahoma Church of Christ in McAlester with burial following at Mountain Station Cemetery in Higgins. Arrangements are under the direction of Brumley-Mills Funeral Home of Hartshorne.
Lois was born on April 13, 1928, in Creekola, to Melvin and Mittie Payne. She grew up in Oklahoma, Texas and California. She moved to Hartshorne in 1944, where she met Fred Mass Jr. They were married on March 9, 1947, in Amarillo, Texas. They were married for 37 years until his passing in 1984.
She was a devoted wife and mother and is survived by her eight children. Son, Danny Mass; daughter, Donna Marcangeli and husband, Tullio, son, Mike Mass and wife, Suzanne, son, David Mass and wife, Vickie, daughter, Melanie Pounds and husband, Dwayne, daughter, Melinda DiMambro, son, Stephen Mass and wife, Debbie, daughter, Stephanie Miller and husband, Kenneth, son-in-law, Dana DiMambro, and daughter-in-law, Sharon Mass.
Lois worked at Kakish's Department Store in Hartshorne for 20 years and always found ways to bless her neighbors and community, especially with her homemade apple pies.
First and foremost, Lois walked her entire life with God and was a faithful member of the 12th Street Church of Christ in Hartshorne.
In the later years of her life, next to being momma, she was Nonie to her 25 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild who survive her. She loved for her family and friends to come into her home where there was always food, love and lots of laughter.

Fifty-four great-grandchildren, Austin and Mylan Mass, Tyler, Blake, Holli and Brett Lindley, Sally, Clayton and Emma Roach, Saraya, Taylor and Reese Dodd, Micah Mass, Gracey and Sammy Greenthaner, Bryson Hall, Garrett Dobson, Anthony and Ellie Mass, Chase, Cross and Gia Mass, Cullin, Zac, Audra, Bonnie, Lilly and Maxey Murrin, Adelyn, Alyssa and Wyatt Budzinsky, Abigail Sandmann, Elishua and Elyann Pounds, Jamison and Jaxtin Pounds, Charlotte Conklin, Taylor and Carley King, Sophia Major, Landon and Gracey Glenn, Patience Caldwell, Johnny and Jett Mass, Lane and Grayson Mass, Giovani Mass, Ava Miller, Augustus, Silas, Finnley Miller, Pyper and Jasper Vinson.
One great-great-grandchild, Zoey Mass.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Mass Jr.; parents, Melvin and Mittie Payne; brother, Lloyd Payne; sisters, Lillian Edwards and Lucille Schrampter, and grandson, Mark Edward Mass.
Lois was dearly loved and is going to be missed and remembered for a long time.
