Lawrence, 81, of McAlester, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at his home surrounded by family.
Lawrence was born on Feb. 1, 1936, at home in Blanco, to Oran and Jimmie (Smyth) Traughber. He graduated from Savanna High School and then attended Murray State College at Tishomingo where he played basketball and studied pre-engineering.
Soon after college he was drafted by the United States Army and served two years with the 101st Airborne followed by three years with the Oklahoma National Guard.
A major part of his life was working in the aircraft industry. He retired from Lockheed when they closed the McAlester plant after 15 years of service. Retired again from Boeing of Tulsa in December 2001.
He had a great love of God, his family and his country. His passion was studying the Bible and sharing it with others. One of his favorite verses was "Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." II Timothy 2:15 KJV
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth (Suiter) Traughber, of the home; son, Duanne Traughber Jr and his wife, Robin, of Tulsa; daughter, Paula Caldwell and her husband, Steve, of Tulsa; grandchildren include, step-granddaughter, Amber Pinson, of McAlester, Trey Traughber and his wife, Kimmy, of Claremore, Julia Traughber, and John and Anna Caldwell, of Tulsa. Great-grandchildren include, Chloee, Rylee and Jacob Pinson, of McAlester, and Olivia Traughber, of Claremore; brother, Phillip Traughber and his wife, Dorothy, of Houston, Texas; sister, Sydney Miller, of Plano, Texas; brother-in-law, Paul Suiter, of Nashville, Tennessee, plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and an uncle.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bishop Chapel of Memories on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, at Richville Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Brother Jeremy Lalli and Brother Donnie Dickerson will be officiating.
Pallbearers will be Trey Traughber, Doug Baker, Joey Lalli, Ronald Green, Thomas Kilburn and William Farries.
Honorary pallbearers will be Clayton Teague, Cy Lalli, William Alvin Nixon, Ronnie Roberson, Ed Weeks, J.C. Crimmins, Ed Brooks, R.W. Sartor and the Men of the Richville Baptist Church.
Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Fort Sill Army Honor Guard.
