Juanita Jewel (Clark) McCray, 93, of McAlester, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at a local nursing center.
Juanita was born to William Franklin and Sarah Catherine (Duncan) Clark on Jan. 19, 1924, in Shawnee. She moved to McAlester from Eufaula in the 1950s.
Juanita married Thomas Jefferson McCray on Dec. 14, 1940, in Eufaula. She worked as a sales clerk for Woolworths, where she was the first woman store manager. She completed her working career as a sales clerk for Montgomery Wards.
Juanita enjoyed crocheting and crafts.
She was a member of North "A" Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty J. Simmons, of Mesquite, Texas; son, Tommy W. McCray, of Rowlett, Texas; grandchildren, Carol Holt, John Marco, Dalanna McCray, Steve McCray, Jeff McCray, Laura McCray, Rob Crow, David Crow, Jeremy Cathey and Joe Zena; 14 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren, and a niece, Mary Lee Seymore.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Willam F. Clark and Sarah C. Clark; her husband, Thomas J. McCray, on May 28, 1997; daughters, Barbara Crow and Margaret Zena; grandson, Stephen Cathey, and sisters, Mary Jennings and Geneva Cooper.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at Bishop Chapel of Memories. Private burial will follow. Arrangements are entrusted to Bishop Funeral Service and Crematory of McAlester.
