Joseph's Story

Joseph "Ed" Edgar Robinson Jr. was born on April 8, 1929, in Carter, to Frankie Lee Sharrock and Joseph Edgar Robinson Sr. He went to his eternal home on Oct. 3, 2017, at the age of 88.
Ed attended Oklahoma State University and was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He graduated with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering with an option in petroleum engineering.
Ed honorably served his country in the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Division during the Korean War.
Upon his return home, he was introduced to his future wife, Katheryn Jane Philippi. They married on April 30, 1955, in McAlester.
Ed had an extensive career at Texaco for 37 years. In his time there, he and his family ventured to Venezuela, Trinidad, Belgium and Nigeria before returning to McAlester in 1991 upon his retirement.
Ed was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of McAlester.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Katheryn Jane (Philippi) Robinson; his grandson, Samuel Robinson; his sisters, Dorothy Jameson and Joanna Harris, and his parents, Joseph Edgar Sr. and Frankie Robinson.
Ed is survived by his three sons, Randall Robinson, of Oklahoma City, Donald Robinson and wife, Pam, of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and David Robinson and wife, Regina, of McAlester, as well as six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Bishop Chapel of Memories.
The funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7, at First Presbyterian Church of McAlester with the Rev. Scott Vandenheuvel officiating. Interment will follow at Masonic Cemetery in McAlester.
Pallbearers will be Randall Robinson, Don Robinson, David Robinson, Joseph Robinson, Brook Robinson and Jack Sheets.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ken Hern, Lance Woodliff, Bruce Hall, Tom Crowl, Ham Shawn and the late Bob White.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of McAlester or the Alzheimer's Association Oklahoma Chapter, 2448 E. 81st Street, Suite 3000, Tulsa, OK, 74137-4250.
