John Ray Turner, 62, of Hartshorne, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Cornerstone Hospital in Muskogee. The family will host a celebration of life visitation and fellowship time at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester on Friday, Dec. 29th, at 11 a.m.
John Ray Turner was born on May 11, 1955, in Weatherford, Oklahoma. His family came to McAlester when he was in the 7th grade, and later moved to Checotah where John graduated high school. Soon after school, John joined the U.S. Navy and served for 6 years before his honorable discharge. He then returned to McAlester and soon went to work as a correctional officer at the state prison. He worked there for over 20 years until his retirement. John's favorite past-time was listening to all kinds of music.
He is survived by his wife, Beryldean Wagoner, of the home; his mother, Janis Turner, of McAlester; his father, Jerry Ray Turner, of Ft. Smith; a son, Jeffrey Ray Hill, of Wagoner; a sister, Lacy Borengasser of McAlester; a brother and best friend, Doug Turner of McAlester.
