John "J.P."'s Story
John Glen "J.P." Peters, 75, of Muskogee, passed away on March 11, 2018.
He was born June 22, 1942, in Oklahoma City, to Bruford and Faye (Bennett) Peters. Johnny graduated from McAlester High School with the Class of 1960.
Johnny married the love of his life, Gena Dian Klutts, on July 31, 1987, in Muskogee. They shared over 30 years of life and marriage together.
He worked in the oilfields in Hobbs, New Mexico, and was a butcher in McAlester. He also worked on the pipelines in Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, and later worked for Klutts, selling railroad equipment until his retirement in 2006.
He enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, hunting, riding horses and mules, and his many trips to Colorado.
Johnny always had a dog, but his favorite was Ben. Ben went everywhere with him.
Along with being a great dancer, Johnny loved listening to old country music and singing to every song. He also loved spending time with his family and friends and had many stories and jokes for every occasion.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Bruford and Faye Peters; brother, "Boots" Peters, and father-in-law, Bill Klutts.
He is survived by his wife, Gena, of the home; children, Johnny Peters Jr., of McAlester, and Reve Cansler and husband, Roy, of Seiling; grandchildren, Miranda Ellis and husband, Troy, of Bucklin, Kansas, Matthew Cansler and wife, Megan, of Seiling, Michael Cansler, of Stillwater, and Blaine Peters and wife, Destiney, of McAlester; six great-grandchildren; the mother of Johnny's children, Helen Peters, of McAlester; sister, Betty Brock, of McAlester; sister-in-law, Judy Peters, of Texas, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

A celebration of Johnny's life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at Muskogee Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jeff Cranton officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Collins, Tommy Burk, Warren Goetcher, Charlie Armstrong, Jackie Swboni and Jeff Pink.
