Joe Wayne's Story
Joe Wayne Sirmans, 47, of Hartshorne, died Wednesday, June 7, 2017, at his residence.
Joe Wayne was born on March 31, 1970, in McAlester, to Troy Wayne and Janell Kay (Benedict) Sirmans. He attended Hartshorne schools and graduated from Hartshorne High School in 1988. Joe Wayne graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College and then received a bachelors degree and masters degree from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. He was a teacher for Hartshorne for 15 years and taught the fifth grade at Jones Academy for the past 10 years.
Joe Wayne married Amanda Smith on Aug. 9, 2003, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Joe Wayne enjoyed traveling by motorcycle, especially with his uncle Joe. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his daughters and Joe. He also enjoyed working on antique tractors. Joe Wayne loved to be with his family and genuinely liked to help others.
Joe Wayne is survived by his wife, Amanda; daughters, Adisyn Webster, Landri Sirmans and Skyler Sirmans, all of the home; parents, Wayne and Janell Sirmans, of Adamson; maternal grandmother, Mary Alice Benedict, of Adamson; sister, Jayna Munson and husband, Todd, of Ark City, Kansas, and children, Nate and Ella; uncle, Joe Bendedict and wife, Lynn, of Adamson; aunts, Alice Spears and husband, Clyde, of Gowen, Carol Honeywell, Nancy Watson and husband, Jimmy, and John Sirmans and wife, Gloria, all of Hartshorne; mother-in-law, Mary Smith, of Krebs, cousins and numerous other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Joe Benedict, and paternal grandparents, Webby and Lois Sirmans.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Chaney-Harkins Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 10, at Adamson Baptist Church, officiated by Pastor Tom Young. Burial will follow at Adamson Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe D. Benedict, Braylon Spears, Clyde Ray Spears, Brad Spears, Brandon Spears and Shawn Sparks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Jones and all of Joe Wayne's old running buddies.
