Jessica "Jessie" Elaine Swartwout, 18, of McAlester, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, near Tahlequah.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Indianola School Gym officiated by the Rev. Michael Perry. Burial will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Jessie was born on May 1, 1999, in McAlester. She attended Indianola School and graduated in 2017 as school valedictorian. She was the basketball team captain and played softball.
She was attending Northeastern State University for pre-med.
She attended Indianola First Baptist Church and Life Church.
Jessie loved turtles and her friends at school nick named her "Turtle".
Jessie is survived by her parents, Steve and Jackie Turnbull, of McAlester; brothers, Gary Swartwout and wife, Heather, of Little Elm, Texas, and Christopher Swartwout, of Broken Arrow; sister, Kim Hall, of McAlester; nieces, Kamryn Swartwout and Addisyn Swartwout, both of Little Elm, Texas, Braylin Hall, of McAlester, and Destiny Chapin, of Broken Arrow; grandparents, Gary Sr. and Donna Swartwout, of Skylar Ville, New York; great-grandmother, Cecelia Swartwout, of Saratoga Springs, New York; grandmother, Beverly Turnbull, of Rexford, New York; special friend, Jeriah Cremeens, of Scipio, and numerous other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Marie Jannelle; great-grandfather, Robert Swartwout, and great-grandfather, Lloyd Turnbull.
