Jerry Wayne Burleson


Jerry Wayne Burleson, 75, of Savanna, died Monday, June 10, at his home in Savanna, after a short battle with lung cancer. The family will welcome friends for visitation at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at the McGee Valley Baptist Church near Daisy, with Brother Phill Tallman officiating. Burial will follow at the Mountain Home (Daisy) Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the Choctaw Nations Color Guard.
Jerry Burleson was born on April 25, 1944 in Talihina to George W. and Audrey Mae (Isom) Burleson and has spent his life living in Daisy and Savanna. He earned his associate's degree in horticulture from Eastern Oklahoma State College, then spent 3 years, 1966 to 1969, in the U.S. Army during the Viet Nam war. Upon his return he married LaDonn Wilson in Stigler on Dec. 21, 1971. Jerry worked for over 20 years with the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority before retiring. In his spare time, Jerry liked to garden and tend to his yard, taking care of his "furr babies" and riding in his buggy, and, most of all, enjoying his grandchildren and great grandchildren and their activities. He was of the Baptist faith.
Jerry is survived by his wife, LaDonn Burleson; a daughter, Kelli Eales of McAlester; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Basolo; grandchildren, Rachael Bernardi and husband Kyle, Stormi McKay, Alli Nichols and husband Colby, and Mackey Eales; great grandchildren, Addison, Raylan Bernardi, and one on the way, Oaklyn Bernardi due in September; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Freida Burleson of Daisy; an uncle, Copus Isom and wife Nadine; an aunt, Alice Hutson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dewayne McKay; a brother, Scotty Lee Burleson; and sister, Ruthie Kindred and a son-in-law, Rocky Eales.
