Jean Ruth Southern, 96, of McAlester, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at her home surrounded by family.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at Bishop Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, at Bishop Chapel of Memories officiated by the Rev. Rodney Briggs. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Fleming, Brayden Fleming, Shane Peace, Will Ardese, Dallas Mauldin and Jason Fassio.
Honorary pallbearers will be Nolan Kesselring, Joe Winslow, Dave Hausser, Eugene Brewster and Ryan Fleming.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation.
Ruth was the youngest of 11 children. She was born to William E. and Mattie A. (Deel) Adams on April 30, 1921, in C-Tree. She graduated from McAlester High School in 1938.
Ruth married J.S. Southern on March 10, 1941, in Muskogee. She worked for the State of Oklahoma and retired in 1986.
She enjoyed cooking for her family. Ruth was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of McAlester.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Nobles, of Hartshorne, and Pamela Hamburg and Roger Wilson, of McAlester; son-in-law, Dick Fry, of Hartshorne; grandchildren, Tonya Hausser and husband, David, Tracey English and fiancé, James Weger, Richard Fry, Kristin Fleming and Ryan, Ashley Kesselring and Wayne Hurst, Hayley Mauldin and Gus Smith, and Ryan Hamburg; great-grandchildren, Dallas Mauldin, Nolan Kesselring, Damara Mauldin, Amelia Hurst, Brooke Kesselring, Lindsey Fassio and Jason, Tiffany Winslow and Joe, Shane Peace and Tosha, Lauren Miller and Josh, Will Ardese and Lily, Blake Beare, Lendi Fry, Erika Ketchum and Robby Orr, Adrianne Reichelderfer and Joe, Tyler Fleming, Brayden Fleming, Jace Fleming, Kaylee Fleming, Ansley Fleming, and Avery Fleming; great-great-grandchildren, Destiny, Caleb, Corbin, Paisley, Zaidy, Angelo, Gianni, Payton, Parker, Shania, Remi Ruth, Stallone, Gunner, Dakota, Brynlee, Gus, Silas, Finley, Eli and Andersyn Ruth; niece, Mary Lou Waller, and numerous other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Mattie Adams; husband, J.S. Southern; daughters, Linda Ruth Fry, and an infant daughter, Tonya Sue Southern; brothers, Leon Adams, Quince Adams, J.D, Adams, Warren Adams, Buford Adams, and George Adams; sisters, Ila Sutton, Mary Lou McClendon, Hazel Sutton, and Branch Brewster,and sons-in-law, Gary Hamburg and Lewis Nobles.
